Modern Migration Policy
A new Modern Migration (MoMi) Act is expected to become effective as per January 2011. The purpose of this new migration policy is to attract more students and Highly Skilled Migrants to the Netherlands. In other cases the restrictive policy remains unchanged.
As of May 2005 the Highly Skilled Migrant (HSM) procedure already provided a more efficient application procedure to employers who were registered as a referent at the Immigration and Naturalization Desk (IND).
The new migration policy however will bring significant improvements in order to speed up the HSM procedures. To prevent fraud and create social coherence, the government will focus on a more severe (retrospective) evidence verification. Click here to read more...

The Dutch property market: should you rent or buy
Finding the perfect home is not easy in the densely populated Netherlands. The Dutch housing market is characterized by low owner-occupancy and the biggest social housing sector in Europe. In the past, governments have promoted house ownership with some success using financial incentives such as making mortgage interest tax-deductible. Just over half of the housing stock is now owner-occupied, more in rural areas than major cities. In the past year, more houses have become available in the private rental sector as many people put their houses on the rental market, waiting for a better sellers’ market and minimizing their double housing expenses.
Making the move to a new country is an exciting step but can be difficult as Jolanda Tetteroo, Managing Director of t & a relocations, knows only too well. “We want to manage people’s expectations and provide them with enough feedback to make them feel comfortable about the whole process, and certainly not feel alone.”
In some urban parts of the Netherlands, the Dutch property market has boomed, stabilized and, recently, risen again. So should an expatriate buy or rent a house? Click here to read more....

EU-registration sticker for ID card holders
Since the end of 2008, the Expatcenter(s) also provide EU-registration stickers (verklaring van inschrijving voor burgers van de unie) to EU citizens. When all requirements are met, the sticker can be directly put in a valid passport. In most cases submitting an employment agreement or an employer's statement is sufficient to prove that all conditions have been met.
Earlier, this service was not available to EU-citizens holding an ID card instead of a passport. We are pleased to announce that the IND has agreed to - yet another - extension of the services of the Expatcenter(s) from June 14th 2010.
As per the above date, EU citizens can collect an EU-registration sticker on a separate sheet (inlegblad) without additional costs at any Expatcenter.
